The objective was to design a museum that would house the Egyptian collection of the National Archaeological Museum and protect the Temple of Debod, an original Egyptian temple brought piece by piece, which is currently exposed to the elements in a park in Madrid.
The challenge was to protect the temple while minimizing its relocation and without taking it away from the public. The solution was to create an underground museum at the same location as the temple, with an iconic red roof that allows it to remain visible without the need to enter the museum.
